Oh Chick Fil A....

We stopped at Chick-Fil-A on our way out of town on tuesday to grab breakfast. I have never had their breakfast before but have heard that it is good (no surprise there) and it was. It was so good that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and I can't get over my craving for chick fil a. Amy drove down that evening and took me to chick fil a, and i had the leftover nuggets for breakfast the next morning. I still want more.

Since there's only one in utah valley and it's at the mall... and i don't have a car... and indulging myself in chick fil a every day would get expensive, I looked up a copycat recipe. I have put together the ingredients and am waiting to give it a try. (You are supposed to soak the chicken in an egg/milk mixture for an hour before breading it in the flour/salt/pepper/powdered sugar mixture)

If it's any good, I will be so happy. If it's not... well i guess that chick fil a has me as a customer for life. I just can't resist! I'm tempted to get one of their party trays and freeze the nuggets so I can have them ready whenever i want. It's not too expensive... well more expensive than buying nuggets at costco, but better quality too. 64 nuggets are $23, 120 are $41.50, and 200 are $66.50. It seems cheaper than buying them 8 nuggets at a time... but then I'm not sure. I haven't done the math.

Erik thinks I'm crazy. Maybe I am....

  5. Great chicken challenge? I'm a little scared.

I've never heard of fast food that still tastes good after being re-frozen and re-thawed. Maybe chick-fil-a will be the first... :)

  8. And just in case you were wondering... you ARE crazy.

    But so are we.

  9. Maybe you should wait until you're not pregnant, and see if this still sounds like a good idea. :)

Or you could just start with the 8 count. It might save Erik some grief in the immediate future. I remember one time when Andrea was pregnant that we actually convinced a Boston Market to stay open 15 minutes past normal closing time because she wanted one of their sandwiches.

  10. So, what is the result of the great "chik fil a" experiment?

  11. Oh it was actually really good, but having to make them myself took the craving away. here's the recipe though, if you're interested:

    1 Egg
    1 cup Milk
    1 cup Flour
    2 1/2 t. Powdered sugar
    1/2 t. Pepper
    2 T. Salt
2 Skinless, boneless chicken breasts, halved

    1. Mix together the egg and milk. Place the filets in this mixture, and let
sit for at least an hour.
    2. While the breasts are sitting, mix together the Flour, Sugar, Pepper, and
    Salt.
    3. Once the sitting is done, dredge in the flour. (For ourselves and our
favourite customers, after the first dredging, we would put them back in the
milk bath for a few seconds, and re-dredge! This is not company policy,
    however!)
    4. Place the Peanut oil in a deep fat fryer, and bring up to a high heat.
Once up to 375 F., gently drop into the oil, and let cook until golden
    brown.

I just pan fried them. I would probably try baking them if I were to do it again. And i decreased the salt by half b/c some of the reviews said it was too salty. :)

  13. Nothing ever tastes as good when you have to make it yourself. I've always said that my favorite food is something someone else cooked.

AND ... I was going to say that you ARE crazy and we're actually a fun bunch, but Wizard beat me to it!
