Apartment

Ok, so a thought came to me the other day (because our garbage disposal broke). Who fixes stuff when you have a house? Do you just have to know how to fix all that stuff? I mean, we just called the Apartment management. The guy is a handyman, so they just came over and in 15 seconds it was fixed... (Our "1 teaspoon" had gotten stuck in the gears... oops) So, if we had a house, what would we do? If we called someone, they would want us to pay them $50 for taking the one teaspoon handle out of the motor, but it's not anything I would have known how to fix...

  1. If you've got enough money to buy a house, you should have enough money to maintain it. This is rarely the case, of course. Most people learn these things over time or get to know someone who does... or they just suffer through it.

  2. Yeh but hopefully you keep the house in good condition and you won't have major repairs.. . it's like a car that way. Keep on the maintenance and your car will run smooth. . . if it gets broken and you can fix it yourself - take it to the shop.

  4. Thats why they have plumbers and electricians and gardners and all sorts of people. So that if you dont know how to take care of the problem you can call on someone who does.

  9. Houses cost lots of money to fix sometimes, like if you discover that your furnace is cracked. If it's something relatively minor (like, say, a teaspoon in the garbage disposal) then they have books for that. I like Reader's Digest Do It Yourself manual (or is it Fix It Yourself? One of those...). Sometimes the manual for whatever is broken can be helpful, too.
